Grosvenor Square has now reopened, marking the culmination of almost a decade long journey to reimagine London’s second largest garden square into an extraordinary urban garden.
Featuring 150,000 new plants and bulbs, 44 new trees and new wetlands, Grosvenor Square is now a natural haven for wildlife and habitats in the heart of the West End, blending beauty and biodiversity to create a place for visitors and residents to reconnect with nature.
The thoughtful planting design has been designed to evolve and deepen across all four seasons offering visitors a new experience throughout the year.
More than 7,000 people have fed into the designs, ensuring the proposals reflect the needs, aspirations and values of residents, businesses and visitors.
The largest private investment in public green space in the West End in a generation, the square has been designed to work harder for people and nature, showing how urban green spaces can respond to the climate emergency.
The square will be home to a new education centre. Run by the London Wildlife Trust and funded by The Westminster Foundation, it will offer opportunities for children and adults to learn about nature, biodiversity and the square’s role in addressing climate change.
Only the fourth time it has been redesigned in its 300-year history, the radical redesign of the Square represents Grosvenor’s environmental leadership and ongoing commitment to create vibrant distinctive neighbourhoods for residents, businesses and visitors.

When will Grosvenor Square reopen?
Grosvenor Square will reopen to the public from 20 July 2026 following its year-long transformation.
Can I host an event at Grosvenor Square?
It is possible to hire space within The Wheatsheaf Building at Grosvenor Square. The space will be managed by London Wildlife Trust and can host events of up to 40 people. More information of how to book the space will be available shortly via London Wildlife Trust.
For larger corporate events, Grosvenor will be taking enquiries for 2027 shortly, and will publish an events policy later this year.
What are the Square’s opening hours?
In summer, Grosvenor Square will be open from 7am to 9pm. In winter, Grosvenor Square will be open from 7am to 6pm.
Can I bring my dog to Grosvenor Square?
Dogs are welcome at Grosvenor Square, however must be kept on a lead at all times. Please keep dogs away from the children’s play areas and all water features, including the wetlands.
Is Grosvenor Square accessible?
Grosvenor Square has been designed for everyone and is wheelchair accessible and step free. There is an accessible toilet.
Is there drinking water at Grosvenor Square?
Drinking water is available at Grosvenor Square for refillable bottles, with bottle filling stations within the garden.
Will there be security at the square?
There will be a garden warden at Grosvenor Square from 7am to 7pm everyday Monday to Sunday. There is also 24-hour CCTV at Grosvenor Square, with local security patrols to ensure that the Square is a safe place for everyone to enjoy.
What will London Wildlife Trust be doing at the Square?
London Wildlife Trust will deliver educational programmes from The Wheatsheaf Building at Grosvenor Square, funded by the Westminster Foundation as part of Grosvenor’s investment into creating an extraordinary urban wildlife garden in the heart of the West End. From summer 2026, the centre will offer learning opportunities for children, young people and adults focused on biodiversity, climate change, the natural environment and the Square’s rich history.

Are bikes / skateboards allowed at Grosvenor Square?
Bikes and skateboards must be dismounted and walked through Grosvenor Square. No bikes can be locked to the perimeter fence or gates.
Are there toilets at Grosvenor Square?
Yes, there are three toilets at Grosvenor Square. One toilet is accessible.
What is served at the cafe kiosk?
London Wildlife Trust will run the cafe kiosk at Grosvenor Square. There will be a selection of cold food, including sandwiches, ice cream and cakes, as well as soft drinks, including barista made coffee, available for purchase.
What time is the kiosk open?
The Café Kiosk will be open from 8am to 5pm daily (and until 4pm in winter).

Grosvenor Square has been conceptualised and designed by leading experts from Tonkin Liu and BDP, with the planting strategy led by the renowned late horticulturalist Professor Nigel Dunnett, and leading ecologist Gary Grant.
